Usable passenger services only exist to Kazakhstan and via Kazakhstan to Russia and Ukraine. These include the following trains:

  • Tashkent - Moscow (3 times weekly): Train 6 Uzbekistan leaves Moscow on Mon, Wed and Fri at 23:15 and arrives in Tashkent at 22:35 on Wed, Fri and Sun. The distance from Moscow to Tashkent by rail is 3,369 km.
  • Tashkent - Ufa (3 times weekly)
  • Tashkent - Celjabinsk (once weekly)
  • Tashkent - Kharkov (once weekly)- This train is suspended since war broke out in Eastern Ukraine.
  • Tashkent - Saratov (every 4 days)
  • Nukus - Tashkent - Almaty (once weekly)

Afrosiab High Speed Train

The fastest train in Uzbekistan, the “Afrosiab” train (model Talgo 250) runs daily from the Tashkent North station in the directions: Samarkand, Navoi, Bukhara, Karshi.
Afrosiab train salons are equipped with climate control system, soft comfortable armchairs with a folding back, a table and other amenities.
Passenger check-in closes 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time of the train.
Speed: up to 210 km/h
As part of the Afrosiab train there are VIP class, business class, economy class, bistro car

Uzbekistan High Speed Train (Tashkent-Andijan-Tashkent)

“Uzbekistan” high-speed train connects the Fergana valley with other regions of the country through the mountain pass “Kamchik”, through the tunnel with a total length of 19.5 km. High-speed train departs daily from Tashkent at 08:05 and arrives in Andijan at 14:04 (6 hours). From Andijan train (059F) departs at 15:25 with arrival in Tashkent at 21:25. Train “Uzbekistan” makes a brief stop in the cities, Pap, Kokand and Margilan.
Comfortable train is designed to carry passengers in cars of different classes: “Economy”, “Business” and “VIP”. The cars are equipped with heating, air conditioning and climate control systems, the temperature inside the cabins is maintained at +22 +24°C.
Speed: up to 120 km/h

Sharq – High Speed Train

The high-speed train, which departs daily from Tashkent, connects three ancient cities of Uzbekistan: Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara. Reaching a maximum speed of 160 km/h, the Sharq train quickly and comfortably overcomes the distance between the end points (Tashkent — Bukhara, 616 km) for 6 hours and 40 minutes. On the way the train makes a stop for 20 minutes in Samarkand.
The composition of the Sharq train includes cars of different types of accommodation – separate compartments with tables and TVs, compartments with beds, designed for 2 passengers, and separate compartments with seats for 3 or 6 people, as well as a common car with chairs. Also, the Sharq train has a buffet car.
Speed: up to 160 km/h

Night Trains

Night trains are  intended for those who want to get to the city in the morning or those who want to relax on the road after a long day trip. This is the most convenient way to move tourists from city to city.

Tashkent – Bukhara – Tashkent №661/662

Tashkent — Bukhara — Tashkent Night train is very convenient for tourist groups: in the evening, the train departs from the Tashkent North station, and at 6:00 AM the next day tourists already go to Bukhara station. At the same time, the train cars are comfortable, which allows passengers to fully rest during the night. The train consists of 5-6 cars of class SV (double Suite), which has a TV, as well as 1 dining car.

Tashkent – Khiva

This night train is also very convenient for tourists: in the evening, at 20:30 the train departs from Tashkent, and at 10:50 the next day tourists stay at the Khiva station. The view of the train, which has a low speed, makes many stops along the way, but allows passengers to rest on the long road. As part of the night train Tashkent — Khiva there are SV cars, ordinary coupe-cars, reserved seats cars, as well as a dining car.

Tashkent – Urgench-Tashkent

Tashkent — Urgench — Tashkent night train is also very convenient for tourists: in the evening, at 20:15 the train departs from Tashkent, and at 12:53 the next day tourists already go to the platform of Urgench station. At the same time, the train cars are comfortable, which allows passengers to fully sleep during the night sleep. Train № 055/056 consists of 12-14 cars (the number of cars may vary) and runs between Tashkent and Urgench daily.

Wikitravel

The main line Tashkent - Samarkand - Bukhara is served by two express trains named "Registon" and "Sharq": The "Registon" brings you from Tashkent in less than 4 hours to Samarkand and the "Sharq" makes the 600-km-journey Tashkent - Bukhara (with intermediate stop in Samarkand) in about 7,5 hours. A daily overnight train from Tashkent to Bukhara offers the possibility to travel during the night and win one day. Comfortable sleeping cars allow a good sleep.

Recently a new train "Afrosiob" started operating on Tashkent - Samarkand line. This Talgo-250-type train makes a respective distance in 2 hours time. Unlike to ordinary local trains, there are 3 classes in "Afrosiob": economy class - 36 persons per carriage room, in business and VIP. Economy class costs 46 thousand soums (roughtly $25 at official rate), business class - 65 thousand soums and VIP - 80 thousand soums. You may also expect some free drinks and snacks. It is planned to extend the "Afrosiob" line to Bukhara and, subsequently, to Khiva by 2014-2015.

Overnight trains also run from Tashkent and Samarkand to Urgench (3 times weekly) and to Nukus - Kungrad (2 times weekly), so it's also possible to travel to Khiva (30 kilometers from Urgench, taxi/bus available) or to the Aral lake (Moynaq, 70 km from Kungrad) by train.

 

There are three types of trains:

  • fast trains (tezyurar poyezd) or express trains (train nos 1 to 149)
  • high-speed trains (yuqori tezlikdagi poyezd) (train nos 151 to 169), and
  • passenger trains (yo'lovchi tashuvchi poyezd) (train nos 171 to 699).

There are four types of sleepers:

  • soft wagon (alohida xonali vagon) - 2 berth compartments
  • kupeli vagon - 4 berth compartments
  • platskart vagon - benches in a large car
  • umumiy vagon - don't take that one
